Chinese automotive turbocharger manufacturer BMTS technology Jinan plant officially put into operation

As environmental issues continue to be valued, European WLTC standards and China ’s double-point policy have been implemented one after another. In 2019, National Six will strike ahead of schedule, and the energy saving and emission reduction of the automotive industry is imminent. However, compared to future development trends such as automobile electrification and engine miniaturization, the turbocharger technology available for gasoline is becoming the mainstream trend.

Compared with global mainstream turbocharger technology suppliers, such as Garrett and BorgWarner, which have been in China for many years, BMTS Technology (Boma Technology, hereinafter referred to as BMTS), which was established in 2008, is still growing rapidly. At this stage, in the face of abundant orders, speeding up the production capacity layout has become its immediate priority.

On September 23, 2019, BMTS held the commissioning ceremony of the Jinan plant in Linkong Economic Zone, High-tech Zone, Jinan City, Shandong Province. This is its sixth largest production base after Blechach, Germany, St. Michel in Austria, Shanghai in China, Dongying in Shandong, China, and Ramos Arispe in Mexico. It will mainly produce high-speed and ultra-high-temperature precision parts. ——Turbine shaft assembly. In the future, it will mainly provide finished components for turbocharging systems for BMTS assembly plants in Shanghai, Europe, and North America. In addition to production functions, it will also undertake research and development tasks for turboshaft electron beam welding and intelligent machining processes.

According to reports, in order to ensure the precision and stability of turbocharger parts during the manufacturing process, the BMTS Jinan plant has a number of advanced manufacturing and inspection equipment imported from Germany, Britain, Austria and other places. The precision of precision machining is up to the micron level. . Each production line includes industry-leading processes such as turning, electron beam welding, high-frequency hardening, ultra-fine grinding, and high-speed dynamic balancing. The first phase of the factory covers an area of 15 acres, the first phase of equipment investment is not less than 100 million euros, the construction of six industrial 4.0 standard turbine shaft production lines, the overall planned annual production capacity of 15 million pieces, the output value will reach more than 2.5 billion yuan.

At the ceremony, Mr. Zhuojun Yang, the global CEO of BMTS, stated in his speech that Shandong Province has a strong industrial foundation and unique geographical advantages, which has brought the reserve of outstanding talents, the accumulation of technology, and the support of upstream and downstream supply chains, and the strategic layout of BMTS. Highly consistent with planning. In the future, BMTS will further increase investment in Shandong, and on the basis of existing production, introduce cross-section technology and production of related core components such as electric turbines.

Vertical integration of localized core components in the supply chain

The current turbocharger adoption rate in the automotive market is increasing year by year, and the competition in the turbocharger market is becoming increasingly fierce. Whether the upstream and downstream supply chains can be well integrated has become the key to whether the auto parts industry can seize the market. A seemingly small turbocharger, but consisting of dozens of precision accessories, including electronic actuators, axial bearings, radial bearings, pressure rollers, pressure shells, intermediate shells, variable turbine cross sections, Turbines, volutes, etc. are assembled through multiple precision processes.

Among them, "the supply chain accounts for about 75% of the cost of turbochargers, and the cost of turbocharger raw materials is very high," said Mr. Weng Zhuojun, vice president of Asia-Pacific operations at BMTS. If you want to reduce costs and increase efficiency, increasing the vertical integration of the supply chain has become an important direction for BMTS, Garrett, BorgWarner and other international turbocharger suppliers.

Because of this, BMTS has landed its turbine shell casting base in Dongying, Shandong, and this time puts the turbine shaft rotor production base in Jinan. In addition to considering the supply distance with customers, it deeply integrates the supply chain to achieve the transformation from metal raw materials to smelting Integration of the entire supply chain from processing to assembly is also one of its important considerations.

“Compared to Europe, we will produce turbine shaft rotors in Jinan, the cost will drop by 20% -30% (excluding logistics costs),” said Weng Zhuojun, “in the future, we will also consider products with similar production processes, including The weldable cross-section technology is placed at the Jinan plant. "

When asked about the choice of localization supporting suppliers, Weng Zhuojun said that currently in Shandong, he will focus more on casting and machining suppliers. And, the more the better.
