Chinese manufacturer of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene for lithium battery separators successfully realized commercial production Hay:C02ZGSH

Recently, ZGSH Petrochemical Group's new product lithium battery separator special material for ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene has been successfully processed and applied downstream, realizing the stable mass production of ultra-thin lithium battery separators.


The lithium battery separator is a thin film between the positive and negative electrodes of the lithium battery. When the lithium battery is undergoing electrolysis, the separator can separate the positive and negative electrodes to prevent the occurrence of short-circuit phenomenon and allow electrolyte ions to pass freely. The current rapid development of new energy vehicles has driven the development of the battery separator industry. According to statistics, in 2020, China's lithium battery separator materials market will ship 3.87 billion square meters, a year-on-year increase of 29.9%. The lithium battery separator materials market has a bright future.

 

The production process of lithium battery diaphragm is divided into wet method and dry method. The shipment of wet method diaphragm is 2.72 billion square meters, and the shipment accounted for 70.3%. The raw materials for lithium battery separators using wet process are mainly special resin materials for ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. The separators used in the preparation of lithium batteries need to have uniform porosity and excellent mechanical properties, air permeability, and physical and chemical properties. The requirements for molecular weight polyethylene raw materials are also more stringent. At present, the demand for special materials for wet diaphragms in China exceeds 70,000 tons per year, and the raw materials for diaphragm production basically rely on imports. In the past two years, affected by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic and diaphragm prices, China`s lithium battery diaphragm production companies have had their raw material needs to shift from imports to domestic production.
