Chinese rare earth alloy material manufacturer successfully developed high-capacity La-Y-Ni hydrogen storage alloy material Hay:A06BFXT

Chinese rare earth alloy material manufacturer BFXT Rare Earth Material Technology Group independently developed a new generation of high-capacity La-Y-Ni hydrogen storage alloy material with a discharge capacity of more than 380 mAh per gram. The comprehensive performance meets the market demand and breaks the foreign patent limit. The project has entered the pilot test stage and is waiting for the test results of nickel-hydrogen battery manufacturers.

According to Yan Huizhong, a technical expert and senior engineer of the BFXT Rare Earth Materials Research Institute, the technology of La-Mg-Ni hydrogen storage materials has always been exclusively mastered by Japan. Although many companies and research institutes in China have conducted research on this, none of them have been formed. Industrialization, and BFXT is the first to make a breakthrough. The new products developed can meet the needs of high-capacity, ultra-low self-discharge Ni-MH batteries, and have achieved technical results in industrialization.

In the previous research, BFXT Rare Earth Materials Research Institute found that Yttrium element can inhibit the hydrogen-induced amorphization of binary La-Ni alloy materials, which can solve the short service life and small discharge capacity of the previous two generations of hydrogen storage alloy products.

Based on the research results, BFXT rare earth materials research and build an industrial test production line with an annual output of 300 tons of hydrogen storage alloy materials. The 200 kg intermediate frequency induction furnace adopts the casting process and the 300 kg intermediate frequency induction furnace adopts the rapid quenching process to develop alloy products and further optimize the process. Continuously improve the performance of hydrogen storage alloys and nickel-hydrogen batteries.
