Continuous fiber-reinforced composite space 3D printing equipment developed by a Chinese 3D printing technology provider completes China’s first space 3D printing experiment

At 18:00 on May 5th, the Long March 5B carrier rocket developed for China's manned space station project successfully sent the new-generation manned spacecraft test ship to the predetermined orbit. The first flight mission was a complete success and the space station phase flight mission was achieved. The first battle was won. This new generation of manned spacecraft is also equipped with a new type of equipment completely developed by our scientific research team: "Continuous fiber-reinforced composite space 3D printing equipment", this will be China`s first space 3D printing experiment, and also the international The first 3D printing experiment of continuous fiber composite materials in space, this landmark equipment was jointly developed by the research team of Xi'an Jiaotong University and China Aerospace Additives Technology Group.

With the support of Academician Lu Bingheng, Professor Li Dichen and Tian Xiaoyong of the College of Mechanical Engineering innovatively proposed the 3D printing technology based on continuous fiber reinforced composite materials in 2014. It is the earliest domestic R & D team engaged in continuous fiber reinforced composite 3D printing technology. The team relies on the national key experimental scientific research platform of mechanical manufacturing system engineering, supported by the key research and development plan of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the national 863 plan, the manned aerospace pre-research, the National Natural Science Foundation and other projects, focusing on high-performance composite material forming additive manufacturing process equipment Conduct research with performance, explore the application of high-performance composite additive manufacturing technology in the aerospace field, have obtained more than 10 authorized invention patents, published more than 20 high-level papers, and 1 ESI paper won the 2019 "Part A of Composites" The journal's highest cited paper award. The research team bears in mind the spirit of westward migration and faces major national needs. It conducts cooperative research with a number of units including the First Academy of Aerospace, the Second Academy of Aerospace, the Fourth Academy of Aerospace, and the fifth Academy of Aerospace. The cooperation achievements of the Fifth Academy of Aerospace Engineering lasted nearly five years.

Continuous fiber-reinforced composite materials 3D printing technology uses continuous dry fiber bundles and thermoplastic polymers as raw materials, and uses a self-developed print head to achieve composite impregnation and fused deposition of the two, realizes integrated preparation and forming of composite materials, and develops composite materials. Research on recycling and reprinting technology and 3D printing process in extreme environment, the research work provides original technology for 3D printing in space. Related research is of great strategic significance to develop China's space manufacturing capabilities, realize space station orbit manufacturing, and further carry out deep space exploration. The research team will bear in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping's deep entrustment to Xi'an Jiaotong University, to realize the mission responsibility with patriotic struggle, do first-class learning, create top technology, live up to Shaohua, and strive to make greater contributions to the development of China's science and technology.
