Corning exhibits at CIOE 2018 China International Optoelectronic Exposition and celebrates 75th anniversary of the launch of ULE zero-expansion glass

Corning, NY-Corning Corporation (NYSE: GLW) today announced that China International Optoelectronic Exposition 2018 will be held in Shenzhen, China from September 5th to 8th, at which time Corning will celebrate its ULE 75th Anniversary of Zero Expansion Glass.

From the earliest refracting and reflecting telescopes, Corning materials paved the way for breakthrough discoveries in the field of astronomy. ULE (Zero Expansion Glass) produced by Corning's Canton plant in New York is a titanium dioxide-silicate glass that has virtually no dimensional change under extreme temperature changes. Therefore, with excellent stability, it has become the material of choice for many astronomical applications.

Recently, this glass has become an ideal material for extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) in semiconductor chip manufacturing due to its thermal stability. Due to the thermal load on the optics during the EUV lithography exposure process, the EUV lithography system requires a zero-expansion glass.

Corning produces lightweight reflectors made of ULE glass for Hubble Telescope, 8-meter monolithic mirrors for Gemini and Subaru telescopes, and has participated in other historically significant Invention project. Because of the excellent stability of ULE glass, the Hubble Telescope has captured the farthest view of the universe to date, allowing scientists to observe scenes over a distance of more than 13 billion light years.
