Corning Introduces New Glass Substrate Astra ™ Glass to Improve Display Pixel Density

Corning, NY — Corning Corporation (NYSE: GLW) today introduced a new glass substrate, Corning® Astra ™ Glass, which will meet the mid-to-large size of high-performance tablets, laptops and 8K TV Application requirements for size-realistic display. From May 14th to 16th, at the International Institute of Information Display (SID) Display Week in San Jose, California, Corning will unveil this innovation and its advanced glass product portfolio in booth 1119.

The well-designed Astra Glass enables high-performance displays to display higher pixel densities, helping panel manufacturers meet consumer demand for brighter, faster, and more lifelike images. To manufacture displays that meet these performance requirements, panel makers need a glass that is thermally stable and dimensionally stable to increase yield and achieve the required resolution.

"After years of close cooperation, we have thoroughly understood our customers' requirements for oxide display glass-low total pitch deviation (TPV), low total thickness deviation (TTV) and low sag. By meeting these needs, we will help Panel makers achieve 8K resolution for large display devices, "said Han Yim, Corning Glass Technology's high-performance display business director. "Astra Glass can meet the precision and high temperature requirements required for oxide panel processing and will be added to the EAGLE XG® Glass and Lotus ™ NXT Glass series display substrate portfolio to meet all customer needs."

Astra Glass is perfect for many high-performance device display panels, from high-end amorphous silicon (a-Si) devices to IGZO oxide devices. The unique attributes of Astra Glass make it a basic component for large 8K TVs, high-performance laptops and tablets, helping products present bright picture quality and respond quickly.

In addition to Astra Glass, the Corning booth will also display:

Corning Lotus ™ NXT Glass

Enhanced design and manufacturing capabilities for high-performance displays, optimized for the expanding LTPS-LCD and LTPS-OLED industries. Lotus NXT Glass possesses extraordinary features and is suitable for flexible OLED panel manufacturing; since 2015, it has been used in more than 375 million mobile phones equipped with flexible OLED displays, leading the industry trend.

Corning® Gorilla® Glass

Cover glass of choice for more than 45 major OEM manufacturers for more than 6 billion devices-providing superior loss resistance, high optical transmission and touch sensitivity.

Augmented reality precision glass solutions

Adopt industry-leading glass to optimize the advanced augmented reality / mixed reality experience brought by fashionable wearable design products. Corning's ultra-flat, high-refractive-index glass displays extraordinary image quality in optical waveguides, and its industry-leading form factor helps customers reduce costs. Corning also has world-leading metrology instruments and automated laser glass cutting machines that can enhance high-volume production capabilities.

Corning Iris® Glass

A glass light guide for edge-lit LCD displays. Thanks to its inherent rigidity and dimensional stability, it is superior to existing plastic technologies, helping manufacturers reduce the thickness of display devices, design narrower bezels and increase display brightness.

During the Display Week, Corning experts will also attend the 2019 SID / DSCC Business Conference, Exhibitor Forum, and Display Week Workshop.
