Gorilla Glass reinforced glass from Corning, an advanced glass manufacturer, is now used in 8 billion devices worldwide.
Recently, Corning released a new generation of Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which is the successor version of Victus released in 2020.
According to Corning's introduction, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 has particularly strengthened its ability to resist falls.
Corning said that today's mobile phones weigh about 15% more than four years ago, and the screen size is also 10% larger. Both of them put more pressure on the screen glass and increase the chance of damage.
Gorilla Glass Victus 2 can withstand 1m impact on 80 grit roughness and 2m impact on 180 grit roughness.
If the test is conducted in the laboratory environment, Victus 2 can withstand a 1m high fall to the concrete floor, or a 2m high fall to the asphalt floor.
Gorilla Glass Victus 2 will be applied to new smart phones, watches, tablets, laptops, cameras and other devices in the coming months. Corning did not disclose whether the cost of the Victus 2 will be higher than that of the previous generation.
