Samsung Display signed a 5-year OLED material supply contract with UDC

Recently, Samsung Display signed a long-term contract with UDC to supply and license OLED materials.

The content of the contract was not disclosed, but it is said that the term of the contract is 2027 and can be extended for another two years.

Samsung displays obtain dopants from UDCs, which are materials that help OLEDs emit light. UDC has monopolized the red and green dopant market used to manufacture the light-emitting layer of PHOLED (a phosphorescent OLED).

Red and green dopants play a key role in realizing the next generation display. Their luminous efficiency is four times higher than that of traditional fluorescence based OLED materials, which can reduce power consumption and have a long service life.

As early as 2011, Samsung Display entered into a strategic partnership with UDC on AMOLED patents and technologies. At present, the two companies are jointly developing the next generation of blue phosphorescent dopants that have attracted much attention.

Stephen Abramson, CEO of UDC, said: "We are very happy to sign such a long-term agreement with Samsung Display, a partner for more than 20 years. The two companies have become more powerful in their cooperation in the past few years.

We look forward to continuing our cooperation to support the development of Samsung OLED product roadmap with high-performance OLED material technology. "
