The surface quality, low temperature impact toughness, shape and other acceptance indicators of the ultra-low temperature nickel alloy steel plate far exceed the European standard and reach the international leading level.

The Low temperature nickel alloy steel plate will be used in the construction of key modules of FPSO ship in P79 project of Buzios Oilfield, the largest deep-water oil field in the world.

SA203GrD, commonly known as 3.5Ni steel, is also called 3.5% nickel steel SA203GrD, which is a low temperature nickel alloy steel,

3.5Ni steel plate is an ultra-low temperature steel with 3.5% nickel content. It has excellent low-temperature toughness and high strength at – 101 ℃, so it becomes the most important structural material for – 101 ℃ low-temperature equipment and vessels.

3.5Ni steel plate is smelted by oxygen converter or electric furnace and refined outside the furnace. 3.5Ni steel plates are generally delivered in the modulated state. With the consent of the Demander, 3.5Ni steel plates with a thickness of no more than 12mm can be delivered in the normalized, normalized+tempered state.

3.5 Ni steel application

3.5Ni steel plate is used to manufacture low-temperature refrigeration equipment in coal chemical industry. Previously, the first 3000m3 ethane spherical tank made of 3.5Ni steel in the world, the largest shift gas methanol absorption tower in China and other key projects in China used 3.5Ni steel developed and produced by HGWG.

3.5Ni steel plate is widely used in coal chemical industry and petrochemical industry.

3.5Ni steel plate still has excellent toughness when the impact temperature is – 101 ℃, and it is mainly used for manufacturing ultra low temperature pressure vessel equipment such as methanol scrubber and CO2 tower.

At present, only three steel enterprises in China, including HGWG, have passed the national review and are qualified to supply 3.5Ni steel plates.

The 3.5Ni steel plate with impact temperature up to – 101 ℃ developed by HGWG has a maximum thickness of 100mm, which is the leading level in China.

Up to now, the market share of 3.5Ni steel plate produced by HGWG in China has reached 99%.

In order to improve the yield rate, reduce the production cost, and continue to maintain the leading position of this steel in China and even in the world, HGWG has carried out trial production of continuous casting process for 36mm thick 3.5Ni steel plate since the beginning of 2022.

As 3.5Ni steel is a high Ni steel, HGWG has overcome a series of production difficulties such as surface cracks of continuous casting billets and many iron oxide scales of steel plates, and successfully produced continuous casting 3.5Ni steel through the efforts of the technical research team.

The inspection shows that there is no crack on the surface of the steel plate, and the performance is excellent.

3.5 NI steel is used for low-temperature pipeline. Stainless steel SA203 (3.5Ni) is a low nickel alloy steel, including grade A, B, C, D, E and F.

Among them, C, D, E and F contain 3.5% nickel, commonly known as 3.5Ni steel. The ultra-low temperature vessel plate SA203 has good impact toughness and mechanical properties under low temperature working conditions.
