Corning’s 10.5 generation glass substrate China plant is about to mass production

On April 30th, Zhang Zheng, Senior Vice President of Corning Incorporated and President of Corning Display Group, and his entourage visited Hubei. Zhang Zheng said that Corning Display Technology Wuhan is about to usher in mass production. This is the company's second 10.5-generation glass substrate factory in the world. It has invested more than 1 billion yuan and introduced Corning’s most advanced production technology. One of China's largest investment projects, including melting, molding and post-processing, is aimed at boosting the development of Hubei's display industry and strategic customer BOE. Its products are used in the manufacture of large-size display panels, which can provide the most economical cutting solution for 65-inch and 75-inch TVs.

In May 2018, Wuhan Lingkong Port Economic and Technological Development Zone and Corning Corporation of the United States formally signed an agreement to start the construction of the 10.5 generation display glass substrate project. The project uses the world's advanced LCD glass substrate production technology and is one of the core supporting projects of BOE's 10.5 generation line. The first phase of the project is planned to invest about 1.3-1.4 billion US dollars. The project uses the world's advanced LCD glass substrate production technology.

At the same time, in May 2018, Corning Hefei's world's first 10.5 generation liquid crystal glass substrate production line mass production ceremony was held in Hefei New Station High-tech Zone, and its mass production will become an important factor for the stable operation of BOE Hefei's 10.5 generation line. According to a report from the Hefei Daily at the time, Corning’s Hefei plant was the world’s first project to produce Gen 10.5 LCD glass substrates and the third LCD glass substrate production plant invested by Corning in mainland China. The total investment of the project was US$1.5 billion, in December 2015. Construction started on the 2nd, the first furnace was ignited on September 29, 2017, and mass production was officially realized on May 10, 2018. Since the end of 2017, Corning has been delivering samples produced by the Hefei plant to BOE.
