Covestro is committed to its development in China, doubling the capacity of its integrated production base in Shanghai, China, from 200,000 tons per year to 400,000 tons to meet the growing demand for polycarbonate in the Asian market. Two polycarbonate resin production lines with world-leading production technology and energy-saving processes were formally put into operation in Shanghai, and Covestro became the world's largest manufacturer of polycarbonate resins.
From medical devices to auto parts, from smartphones to LED lighting-polycarbonate is widely used because of its light weight, high transparency, ruggedness and easy shapeability. Polycarbonate resin can also be mixed with other substances to form a blend with excellent properties.
The two new production lines are the last milestone of Covestro's investment plan of more than 3 billion Euros in China. The plan also includes an HDI plant that was formally put into operation at Covestro's Shanghai integration base in July this year. This new world-class plant can produce approximately 50,000 tons of paint and adhesive raw materials annually.
