Covestro showcases new Baycusan® eco series of bio-based polyurethane film formers at Cosmetogra, providing sustainable formulations for cosmetics

At the Cosmetogra trade fair in Paris on January 15th and 16th, 2019, Covestro will display its new Baycusan® eco series of bio-based polyurethane film-forming agents in the cosmetics country of France for the first time at booth 26. Baycusan® eco E 1000 is the first product in the series. It consists of nearly 60% renewable raw materials and can be labeled as a natural ingredient in accordance with ISO Standard 16128 Part 1.

So far, cosmetic formulators face the challenge of choosing between high-performance synthetic and natural ingredients. In hair styling formulations, Baycusan® eco E 1000 achieves at least the same good performance level as synthetic film forming agents, especially in formulations where long-lasting retention and good moisture resistance are important.

In general, the use of "green" raw materials in hairstyles and hair care products is associated with obvious and tangible disadvantages, such as residues (flakes) on the hair and insufficient wet and wash resistance. Unlike natural film formers, it leaves no residue or sticky contact on the hair. The new product is an excellent way to improve the naturalness of cosmetics without affecting the shape or quality. This applies especially to the curl-retaining properties and thermal protection of the hair.

In keeping with the trend of natural products, Covestro is launching two new cosmetic formulations in Paris: one is a hair gel made from a new bio-based film agent (INCI designation: Polyurethane-93), which has a very Good hair styling properties, which are based on ingredients of natural or natural origin and do not require any synthetic fixing additives.

Baycusan® classic: polymers with good biodegradability

At Cosmetagora, Covestro will also showcase the biodegradable properties of Baycusan® classic series of synthetic polyurethane dispersions. Compared with other film-forming agents, they are biodegraded in a short time. This is an important advantage, especially when used in sunscreen products where consumers pay special attention to environmental compatibility.

Covestro will also provide a skin and marine sunscreen lotion based on synthetic Baycusan® C 1004 (INCI: Polyurethane 35), whose ingredients have been carefully selected to suit the environment. When formulating sun protection products, the main goal was to minimize the impact on marine ecosystems while providing a high degree of protection.
