Dell Display with Corning Iris ™ Glass Light Guide as Key Component Wins CES Awards

Corning Corporation (NYSE: GLW) today announced that its Corning Iris ™ Glass light guide is used by Dell's ultra-thin display S2719DC, which won the CES Innovation Awards. The CES Innovation Awards recognize outstanding design and manufacturing of consumer technology products.

The S2719DC, Dell ’s ultra-thin monitor with Corning Iris ™ Glass light guide, is extremely slim from all angles, with the thinnest part of the fuselage only 5.5 mm thick. It is also the world's brightest ultra-thin display of its kind *, with a peak brightness of 600 nits, and has passed VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) DisplayHDR 600 certification.

Corning Iris ™ Glass Light Guide Program Director Andrew Beck said, "Corning is pleased to help Dell achieve its brand strategy of continuing to bring innovative applications to the industry, and congratulate them for winning this deserved award. The award also means Consumers value the stylish design and visual experience of the display. This display is slim and elegant, and it's great to see that Corning Iris ™ Glass light guide technology can help achieve this breakthrough. "

A light guide plate (LGP) is used for an edge-in display, which evenly distributes the light source and forms a clear and bright image. By using a high-purity glass substrate such as Iris glass, it is possible to reduce the expansion gap and the extra materials required to cope with the warpage and expansion common in plastic light guide plates, thereby providing designers with greater design freedom. Iris glass has zero hygroscopic expansion coefficient and 90% lower thermal expansion coefficient than plastic, making it an ideal light guide plate material for ultra-thin, ultra-bright displays.

With the development of the industry, resolution and design are still the display attributes that consumers value very much. Corning Iris Glass light guides continue to improve the performance of computer monitors. Corning's latest glass innovations and products help the new generation of LCD monitors become brighter and thinner.
