DOMO develops recycled polyamide engineering plastics for automotive applications

A few days ago, DOMO exhibited two high-performance polyamide engineering plastics: TECHNYL® 4EARTH® and ECONAMID® at the Volvo Cars Asia Pacific Recycling Plastics Application Technology Exchange held at Volvo’s Asia Pacific headquarters.

DOMO predicts that in the next ten years, enterprises' demand for recycled materials will increase exponentially. However, due to the unstable properties of recycled materials, they cannot be widely used in demanding products. The high-performance engineering plastic TECHNYL® 4EARTH® adopts the method of recycling automobile airbag filaments to meet strict technical requirements and expand the application range of recycled materials in the automotive industry. The basic raw material of Econamid® comes from industrial recycled textile fibers, which has significant environmental benefits compared with virgin resin solutions.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data shows that using this material is more environmentally friendly. The research results show that compared with virgin materials, ECONAMID® and TECHNYL® 4EARTH® can reduce water consumption by 70%, reduce non-renewable energy consumption by 60%, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 80%.

DOMO believes that as more and more companies transition to a circular economy, entrepreneurs pay more and more attention to how to reduce the environmental impact and "carbon footprint" in the production process. DOMO's TECHNYL® 4EARTH® and ECONAMID® polyamide engineering plastics have performance comparable to traditional nylon engineering plastics, which greatly reduces the impact on the environment.

"Major automakers with advanced sustainable development awareness such as Volvo and Renault aim to increase the proportion of recycled materials used in vehicle products by more than 20% in the next few years. As a company known for its sustainable development and high quality Raw material suppliers, we are very happy to participate in this technical exchange event to show how our products can contribute to global sustainable development." said Fabrizio Cochi, general manager of DOMO Chemicals Asia Pacific.
