Dow launches DOWSIL ™ 8016 water-based resin and DOWSIL ™ 107F additive to simplify the formulation of water-based high temperature resistant industrial coating

On March 20, 2020, Dow, the world's leading materials science company, launched two innovative technologies to simplify the formulation of water-based high-temperature industrial coatings.

"We combine our deep knowledge of silicone chemistry with our unique experience in waterborne coating formulations to bring innovative products to market and help our customers improve the competitiveness of formulations," said Isabelle Riff, marketing manager for silicone coatings. "We are innovating to respond to strong market trends, which has driven the demand for high-performance, water-based formulations. These formulations can meet more stringent environmental requirements."

DOWSIL ™ 8016 water-based resin is a new generation of silicone resin emulsion used in high-temperature water-resistant coating systems, with very little odor and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. It has a high temperature resistance of up to 500-600 ° C and increases the hardness of the coating to protect the metal substrate. When an appropriate condensation catalyst is used, it can be air-dried.

Compared with traditional solvent-based formulations, the resin can achieve high coating performance and aesthetic effects without the use of solvents or coalescing agents. Therefore, it has excellent sustainability and helps protect the environment. As the industry continues to strive to limit VOC emissions, this innovation enables formulators of high temperature resistant coatings to meet increasingly stringent requirements.

Technical Support and Development Manager Xavier Mollat Du Jourdin will introduce the details of this new water-based coating silicone resin in a dedicated webinar on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at 10 a.m. Performance characteristics in coatings.

Dow also announced the new generation of foam control agent DOWSIL ™ 107F additive, which combines improved compatibility with the best performance of low-dose waterborne coatings. Dow also announced a formula defoamer based on silicone polyether and hydrophobic silica, the additive is designed for construction, wood and metal coatings.
