Royal DSM and Clariant have announced an agreement that DSM will take over some parts of Clariant's 3D printing business portfolio.
The two companies believe that the agreement enables DSM to quickly provide customers with development iterations for filament and pellet products based on application needs.
As additive manufacturing technology is increasingly used in industrial production, customers are looking for materials that match their existing product portfolio and production process.
The imminent integration of these assets allows DSM to strengthen its engineering grade filament, granule and powder product portfolio.
In addition, because the Clariant team uses dedicated, highly flexible and high-speed composite equipment, and has extensive experience in rapid and market-driven product development, customers can make faster product adjustments based on application needs and benefit from them.
The transaction included part of Clariant`s 3D printing team, their product portfolio, engineering-grade filament and granular materials, customer relationships, powder development expertise, and a small production line for rapid mass production in small batches.

Richard Haldimann, Clariant’s head of sustainable transformation, added: “After a comprehensive strategic review, Clariant concluded that its 3D printing materials business is no longer consistent with its strategic focus. Although we will continue to use our premium additives and Fuels serve the 3D printing market, but we believe DSM is the ideal new home for Clariant`s custom 3D printing materials business to continue to grow successfully. I look forward to their booming development."
