DSM’s Large-Scale Additive Manufacturing Technology Issues New Carbon Fiber Reinforced Nylon 6 / Nylon 66 Filament Novamid® ID1030 CF10 for 3D Printing Excellent Carbon Fiber Filament Performance

Royal DSM Group (DSM) announced on September 18 that the company has developed a new carbon fiber reinforced nylon 6 / nylon 66 filament Novamid® ID1030 CF10 for 3D printing. Although the carbon fiber content is only 10%-far lower than other carbon fiber reinforced materials, whether it is a prototype or a large-scale production product, its performance is close to that of a product that can usually only be obtained by injection molding, and its print ease And speed is similar to unreinforced plastic.

Hugo da Silva, Vice President of DSM's Additive Manufacturing Business, said: "Whether it is prototype production or industrial manufacturing, 3D printed fused filament fabrication (FFF) has developed rapidly. Using our newly developed carbon fiber Filament materials, manufacturers can use this technology in functional prototypes, durable structural parts in harsh conditions and more applications. "

The carbon fiber content of Novamid® ID1030 CF10 is only 10%, which is far lower than that of conventional carbon fiber reinforced composite materials. The 3D printed structural parts produced using this material have significantly improved tensile strength, tensile modulus and toughness, and at the same time, the size Stable, no warping.

Excellent mechanical properties and smooth surface characteristics make it applicable in a wider range of fields, especially those parts that need to maintain stable performance under temperature rising conditions, such as automotive hoods, protection / support motion gears; tooling fixtures; medical supports And repairs. In many vertical markets, this material can also be used as an important material for lightweight applications.

This material can be used in standard 3D printers equipped with hardened nozzles. Tests have shown that the material prints at the same speed as the unreinforced plastic wire, but with superior strength and toughness.

Novamid® ID 1030 CF10 has been production tested on several FFF printing platforms including GermanRepRap and the new Ultimaker S5.

Novamid ID1030 CF10 carbon fiber filaments are available in two sizes of 1.75mm and 2.85mm. In order to facilitate recycling, environmentally friendly spools are also used. Distributors of this product include FormFutura, MCPP and Nexeo3DSolutions.
