FEV and German energy company Uniper cooperate to develop power bank for electric vehicles

The world's leading powertrain and automotive technology service provider FEV and the German energy company Uniper have developed a power bank for electric vehicles.

The company said that such devices can be used to meet peak demand without the need for large investments in power grid construction and substations. The device is called a mobile fast charger (MFC) and can operate independently of the power grid. Once the battery is exhausted, it will be replaced.

This mobile fast charger is compact, with a length and width of only 1.2 m x 1.25 m, a height of 2.5 m, and can provide a usable energy capacity of 150 kWh, which is equivalent to a 1000 km pure electric cruising range. In addition, the device also allows two electric vehicles to be charged at the same time through the two charging standards of CCS 2.0 and CHAdeMO, with a maximum parallel power of 75 kW.

FEV uses a high-performance cooling system and develops a special cooling strategy to handle the high heat generated by the compact housing. The system layout not only supports high charging current, but also ensures that the charger can operate safely even in extreme weather conditions. In addition, FEV will also receive a CE certification proof of concept (PoC) because the device can meet the most stringent safety requirements and has been successfully tested in an electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) laboratory.

In addition, the mobile fast charger can be managed as an Internet of Things (IoT) device to realize remote status monitoring and operation management. FEV has developed a highly complex Operation Management System (OMS) for this purpose, used for PoC flawless operation and remote access to real-time data. Through remote access, Uniper can track operating conditions, such as battery temperature, charging status and charging power, as well as charging station location. In addition, the billing process of IoT devices can be managed through back-end connections.
