Formlabs to launch elastic resin at TCT: a soft and highly elastic 3D printing material

Formlabs will showcase its latest resin, Elastic Resin, at TCT Asia. This will be the newest material in Formlabs' engineering resin kit for Form 2.

Elastic resin is the most flexible of all engineering resins, it has a Shore hardness of 50A, and has a high elongation and energy feedback. The appearance and performance of the samples printed with this material are similar to those of silicone parts, which have sufficient staying power to be used repeatedly.

Generally speaking, the soft silicone or polyurethane parts used in wear, medical models, robots or special effects props are completed through mold making or outsourcing services.

Some 3D-printable software materials have appeared on the market, but the finished products are basically non-reusable, that is, the elasticity is far worse than silicone after several deformations and disappearances. Developing photocurable resins for software is extremely challenging because such materials must be highly elastic and the structure must be strong enough to ensure that they do not deform or break during printing-two generally opposite properties.
