German DELO company developed a New Structural Adhesive DELO MONOPOX HT2860 with High Temperature Stability

DELO has developed a new type of adhesive that has three times the high temperature strength of its predecessor. DELO MONOPOX HT2860 can also be inductor cured, which can significantly speed up the manufacturing process. Most other electric motors use epoxy as an adhesive.

High temperature stable structural adhesives can be used to bond magnets in electric motors

Many epoxy resins change their polymer structure at temperatures of 150 ° C or higher, resulting in reduced performance and increased elasticity.

DELO MONOPOX HT2860 has now developed a structural adhesive with a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 168 ° C. Therefore, the Young's modulus does not change significantly below Tg, the adhesive has very high temperature stability, and the elasticity increases only above this temperature. At sandblasted aluminum and 150 ° C, DELO has very good adhesion to metals, high temperature resistant plastics, ferrite compounds and ceramics. For example, at room temperature, the compressive shear strength on aluminum can reach 65 MPa, and on ceramics it can reach 55 MPa.

This adhesive is heated in an oven or induction. The latter requires the connection of metal to generate heat, which can reduce the processing time by more than 90%, and the strength of the adhesive is the same as standard curing at 150 ° C and heating in a convection oven for 40 minutes.

Another advantage of the new structural adhesive is that the adhesive container of DELO MONOPOX HT2860 can be processed on a room temperature production line four weeks before curing.

DELO MONOPOX HT2860 has an operating temperature range of -55 to 220 ° C and is suitable for bonding under high static or dynamic loads. For example, magnets are bonded in electric motors in the automotive industry.
