Global specialty plastics supplier Eastman cooperates with environmentally friendly coatings supplier NB Coatings to use Trēva ™ engineering bioplastics to provide a new interior A-level spray surface solution

Recently, Eastman commercialized its carbon regeneration technology and began to produce Trēva bio-based recyclable materials. Through the NB Coatings spraying system, Trēva materials can meet the strict A-level surface requirements of OEM manufacturers. Many companies are committed to developing cost-effective and sustainable products, and Trēva offers them viable options. Chris Scarazzo, head of Eastman`s automotive market, said: “In automotive interior applications, Trēva provides sustainable alternative bio-based products that can replace polycarbonate, ABS, and PC-ABS without increasing costs. Mann ’s material innovation meets the needs of OEMs, creating sustainable parts through sustainable materials and helping them achieve sustainability goals, replacing petroleum-based plastics. "

Trēva materials come from sustainably managed forests, with a bio-based content of 42-46%, which has been certified by the US Department of Agriculture's BioPreferred®. Thanks to carbon regeneration technology, this material can continuously reduce waste and maximize the use of resources. Carbon regeneration technology is Eastman's proprietary recycling process that can be used to recycle waste plastics.

Carbon regeneration technology is a chemical recycling technology that collects waste plastics from the dump and converts them into simple molecular compounds. Then, it is used to reproduce various Eastman products, such as Trēva¾, without affecting product performance.

In automotive applications, the cellulose-based Trēva material has excellent performance and little impact on the environment. This material has optical and birefringent properties, so it has high clarity and strength, and is suitable for applications such as human-machine interface (HMI) lenses; and, it can withstand the challenges faced by automotive interiors, including high temperature, humidity, ultraviolet rays, scratches Mark / damage and general durability requirements. Trēva's low volatile organic compound (VOC) emission concentration is of great significance to interior components. Moreover, it is easy to process, has strong fluidity, has good dimensional stability, is suitable for thin-wall design, and is beneficial to reducing the amount of material used and reducing weight.

Jesse Fritcher, Vice President of Technology Department of NB Coatings, said: "Tests on Trēva materials show that our coating technology has strong adhesion, which is comparable to the conventional grade PC-ABS currently in use and even exceeds its performance. Design engineers provide new sustainability options. "
