Hexion introduces innovative polyol technology for polyurethane and polyisocyanate foams

Hexion has recently introduced a new building block material that offers a range of advantages to polyurethane rigid foam producers, which can improve fire resistance and increase productivity compared to traditional technologies. When these polyols react with isocyanates, they produce polyurethane foam insulation materials, which are used in building insulation, refrigerators and freezers, and industrial insulation.

Hexion's unique polyol series, launched under the Resonance ™ brand, combines the best properties of traditional polyols, polyesters, and polyether polyols to become a "direct" replacement for these materials in commercial-grade polyurethane foam boards.

The characteristics of Resonance ™ P and T series polyols include high aromaticity and a series of functions, providing a variety of advantages, including: improved fire resistance; increased flexibility to adjust catalysts and flame retardant additives, which can simplify formulations and reduce overall system costs ; Higher compressive strength; improved dimensional stability, improved production efficiency; and enhanced compatibility with isocyanates, copolyols and additives, resulting in finer unit structures.

Resonance ™ T series polyols can provide different levels of nitrogen content to achieve high reactivity, making them good results in applications such as sprayers and electrical foams. Fast curing is essential. At the same time, the material is non-volatile and can reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds.

JP Aucoin, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Hexion Global Phenolic Resin Specialty Resins, said: "We are pleased to provide these innovative raw materials for the polyurethane industry. Recent accidents around the world have affected the performance of insulation materials in terms of fire resistance, smoke and harmful gases. Concern, manufacturers are looking to improve product safety, mechanical properties, and manufacturing efficiency. Our new Resonance ™ brand P- and T-series polyol product portfolio offers an attractive new alternative to current technology. "
