New factory for high-performance plastics
Specialty chemicals company LANXESS is continuing to invest in its global high-performance plastics production network and is building another complex at its plant in Krefeld-Uerdingen, Germany, for tens of millions of euros. In addition, LANXESS will construct facilities such as warehouses and silos.
Starting in the second half of 2019, LANXESS will produce Durethan and Pocan engineering plastics. These two products are mainly used in the automotive and electrical and electronics industries. Construction will begin in the fourth quarter of 2018, and investment in the Krefeld-Uerdingen plant will add approximately 20 jobs.
The design of the new plant will enable LANXESS to expand its business as needed in the coming years. Specialty Chemicals already operates a high-performance plastic polymer complex in Krefeld-Uerdingen. It was not until March 2018 that the company commenced a new production line for specialty compounds in the region.
Comprehensive expansion of high-performance plastics

LANXESS is highly behind the high-performance plastic value chain. The company produces precursors for engineering plastics, such as PA and PBT compounds, glass fibers and polyamide 6 monomer caprolactam. All of these products are produced in their own factories.
In recent years, LANXESS has expanded its comprehensive capabilities to enable the company to process most of its intermediates into high-performance plastics in its global plant network. The specialty chemical company is also investing in a new integrated plant in Changzhou, China, which is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in the second quarter of 2019.
