MAHLE introduces a plastic transmission bracket made of BASF Ultramid®

.BASF`s simulation technology optimizes the load behavior, allowing plastics to replace metal materials

· The all-plastic bracket made of BASF's material solution Ultramid® has improved noise, vibration and harshness (NVH)

· This innovative material solution can reduce the weight of automotive structural parts by 50%, thereby improving energy efficiency

May 12, 2021-BASF and MAHLE, a leading international supplier of auto parts for original equipment manufacturers (OEM), have joined forces to adopt BASF's innovative material solution Ultramid® A3WG10 polyamide ( PA) commercialized plastic transmission brackets. BASF's Ultramid® A3WG10 is a special high-fill material solution for chassis and structural parts. In addition, BASF also uses its proprietary simulation technology Ultrasim® to provide support to MAHLE, effectively reducing trial and error during the development phase.

Sanghae Suh, Director of BU2 KR, MAHLE said: “As automotive components are affected by various dynamic and static loads during driving, the bracket must bear the same load as traditional metal materials. Ultramid® has excellent mechanical properties, so We can replace the entire structure from a metal material to Ultramid®. The transmission bracket is the first structural application business launched by MAHLE in the world, and BASF's strong support has helped us successfully enter the market."

BASF's innovative plastic transmission bracket made of lightweight and high-performance plastics can reduce the weight by 50%, thereby improving energy efficiency and the sustainability of vehicle drives, and the injection molding process also simplifies the manufacturing process.

In addition, Ultramid® has excellent damping characteristics, which improves the NVH of the parts, resulting in a more comfortable driving experience.

Long Zhiqiang, Global Vice President of BASF`s Asia Pacific Specialty Materials Transportation Division, said: “Our cooperation with MAHLE on this project is a good demonstration of BASF`s ability to co-create new applications with customers with advanced material solutions and technical support. Strength. We not only provide customized material solutions to meet the specific needs of MAHLE, but also provide strong support for them to achieve their sustainable development goals."
