Mitsubishi Chemical launched a new high-strength and heat-resistant carbon fiber reinforced cyanate ester prepreg

On March 17, Mitsubishi Chemical announced the launch of a new product of carbon fiber prepreg based on cyanate ester resin, which has excellent high strength and heat resistance.

In the traditional carbon fiber composite material system, the two are usually considered to be in a trade-off relationship, and a trade-off is needed. However, in practical applications, especially in the field of automobile engine parts, the requirements for both are very high, causing the parts manufacturers to be stuck in the distress of seeking the best balance point.

Mitsubishi Chemical has used its own accumulated technological advantages to creatively develop a cyanate ester resin material by combining raw material technology with catalyst technology, and use it as a matrix to develop this new carbon fiber prepreg product.

This product not only has the toughness and strength of carbon fiber, but also can withstand high temperatures of 250°C. At the same time, its storage stability is better than traditional cyanate ester resin materials, can be cured in the same mold used for epoxy CFRP materials, and is easy to process.

It is said that the product has been initially applied in racing engines. Mitsubishi Chemical hopes to expand its application range from the automotive industry to industry, aerospace and other fields.
