Mitsubishi Chemical to build new high-performance polymer production base in China

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation plans to establish a new high-performance polymer production base in Chengdu, Sichuan Province in the spring of 2019, and begin to produce PVC superabsorbent powders suitable for automotive interior panels and other components. Ryoka Performance Polymers (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. will have a production capacity of 3,500 tons / year, led by Franck Ruel.

At present, Mitsubishi Chemical owns two high-performance polymer production bases in Suzhou and Changshu, Jiangsu Province along the coast of China, producing PVC compounds, including PVC superabsorbent powders, thermoplastic elastomers, and adhesive polyolefins for automobiles and electrical wires Various applications such as cables and building materials. High-performance polymers have shown steady growth in the Chinese automotive market, and expectations for the future growth of PVC compounds are particularly high, including PVC superabsorbent powders for automotive interiors, with excellent design capabilities and surface textures.

Mitsubishi Chemical aims to meet this strong demand by establishing a new high-performance polymer production base through a newly established subsidiary in Chengdu, a midwestern city in China. The company also plans to focus on product production in the food, medical, and optical sectors, which, like high-performance polymers, are expected to see significant growth in the future.
