Murata Manufacturing has developed an ultra-thin lithium-ion battery with a thickness of 0.05mm

From October 16th to 19th, 2018, at the "2018 Japan Hi-Tech Expo" held in Makuhari Messe, Japan, Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. exhibited an ultra-thin lithium-ion battery with a thickness of 0.05mm.

This type of battery, called an "all-solid-state thin film battery", is a thin film battery that can be formed on a resin film. At the booth, Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. showed visitors the actual voltage generated and the charging function as a rechargeable battery. This type of battery is only 15 × 15 × 0.05mm, and can be used with a capacity of 50 micro Ah and an average voltage of 3.0V.

As the degree of freedom in shape becomes higher, application examples such as mounting a battery on a thin curved surface, or a power supply for a flat-bottom glass equipped with an electronic paper display are shown.

Since a thin and small battery can be made, an example of visualizing a "smart contact lens" used on the surface of an eyeball is also shown. Maybe you can also achieve contact lenses that connect to the network and synthesize images in the field of view.
