Novelis Inc. (Novelis Inc.) FY2020 aluminum alloy automotive sheet shipments reached 620,000 tons, accounting for 19% of the annual shipment of 3.27 million tons.
Automotive sheet shipments are growing rapidly
Beginning in 2015, Novelis’s automotive sheet shipment growth has accelerated. The quarterly shipments in the first quarter of 2015 exceeded 100,000 tons, followed by steady growth every quarter. After FY2017 Q4, that is, the first quarter of 2017, Shipments in each quarter exceeded 150,000 tons.
Analyzing the annual data of Novelis, we can find that starting from 2011, the shipments of can materials and auto plates have been increasing in the past 10 years, and the percentages of the two products are also increasing. FY2020 can materials + auto plates have accounted for all 85% of shipments. In other words, Novelis' products are becoming more and more specific, giving up other production capacity to can materials and automotive panels. Novelis is making every effort to expand the market share of aluminum alloy in automotive plates, hoping that aluminum alloy automotive plates can become the dominant product in the future, just like cans.
More than 40 years of research and development and continuous expansion have established Novelis's industry leading position. In 2020, Novelis's aluminum alloy automotive sheet has a global market share of more than 50%. In recent years, Novelis has made every effort to bet on automotive sheets. On the one hand, it continues to expand production capacity and on the other hand strengthens new product research and development to further consolidate its leading position as a supplier of automotive aluminum sheets.
Capacity expansion
· In 2018, invest US$300 million to increase the automotive sheet production capacity of the Guthrie plant in Kentucky to 200,000 tons/year

Speed up R&D
