However, in 2018, the global demand for fully degradable plastics was only 360,000 tons, the penetration rate was only 0.65%, and China was only 0.62%. There is huge room for improvement. In the application process of degradable plastics, PBS/PBA and PLA often need to be blended and modified, and PLA mainly depends on the supply of international giants. The market of degradable plastics, which is already in short supply, is particularly tense.

PLA barriers are extremely high, and lactide is a technical bottleneck. PLA is made from the polymerization of lactic acid and is currently produced using a two-step process. High-purity and high-gloss pure lactic acid raw materials are the basis of PLA synthesis. The production of the intermediate lactide is the core of the PLA synthesis process, and is also a technical bottleneck facing China. Due to the difficulty of the process, the development of the domestic PLA industry is limited.

PLA is a neglected good track with huge room for development. The potential for global PLA demand reached 6.51 million tons, and China also has 1.7 million tons of demand. At present, the global production capacity is 330,000 tons, and the output is about 200,000 tons. It is mainly supplied by two foreign companies. The production capacity of domestic PLA companies is around 10,000 tons. Chinese companies are gradually breaking through technical barriers and opening up development space.
