Russian Rostec allocates $ 44.5 million for Russian airlines to introduce additive manufacturing

Russia's state-owned industrial technology holding group Rostec is allocating $ 44.5 million for the development of a specialized additive manufacturing technology center.

V.V. Chernyshev Additive Technology Center (CAC) will be established by Rostec in cooperation with three other members of the National Aviation Cluster: Russian Helicopter Company, Engineering Company Technodinamics and Wireless Electronics Holding Company KRET.

"Industrial 3D printing is becoming one of the indispensable features of modern industry," commented Anatoly Serdyukov (Russian source), Rostec's Group Industrial Director.

"We saw the high potential of this technology and introduced it into our production practices."

Additive Manufacturing for Russia and Global Aerospace

V.V. Chernyshev CAC will introduce additive manufacturing for the mass production of Russian gas turbine engines to serve domestic and international aerospace operations. The overall goal is to reduce component costs by 44%; reduce weight by 25%; reduce production time by 50%; from design to classification.

The center's first products are planned to be certified between 2025 and 2030, and as previously reported, production of the Aviadvigatel PD-35 next-generation aviation jet engine is likely to be part of the plan.

The estimated revenue generated by the center is expected to reach nearly $ 200 million between 2018 and 2027, with sales profits exceeding $ 53 million.

Additive Manufacturing in Russia

Founding member of V.V. Chernyshev CAC, Russian Helicopter Company, has demonstrated its commitment to advancing additive manufacturing for its Ka series helicopter production line.

As FITNIK, the German 3D Printing Services Agency FIT AG has recently established a joint venture with the Russian engineering company NIK in the country. The Russian state has also developed its own large-format 3D printer.
