This time, in order to improve performance and price competitiveness, Samsung Electronics decided to develop a new folding screen glass. Samsung Electronics needs a product whose thickness is more than twice that of the current 30μm while ensuring folding performance. In fact, the thinner the glass is, the more fragile it is, but the better the flexibility. At the same time, the thinner glass is more likely to be wrinkled and not resistant to external impact. What Samsung Electronics needs is glass that is thicker than it is today, but can still be folded. Samsung Electronics decided that it was difficult to realize with the existing industrial chain, and decided to start development in person.
Price competitiveness is also an important reason to decide self-control. Galaxy Z Flip's glass unit price is about 40 US dollars per piece, which is 20 times the price of ordinary tempered glass 2 US dollars. Industry insiders analyzed that the price difference is mainly due to the low glass cutting yield.
