Schaeffler presents several new products at the Frankfurt International Motor Show 2019

In order to achieve the 2 ° C temperature control target set by the Paris Climate Agreement and significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions, the entire automotive industry needs to face challenges together. The Schaeffler Group is doing its part and actively contributing with practical actions. At the 2019 International Frankfurt Auto Show (IAA), the company showcased its vision of innovation-oriented sustainable transportation with the theme "Achieving Sustainable and Automated Transportation". Klaus Rosenfeld, Chief Executive Officer of the Schaeffler Group, said: "The automotive industry is currently undergoing tremendous changes and we will use this development opportunity to fully leverage our technology in the field of powertrain and chassis systems. Expertise to shape sustainable transport in the future in innovative ways. "

At this exhibition, Schaeffler will show the development concept based on the entire transportation energy chain, as well as a series of innovative system solutions. As one of the highlights, Schaeffler will show its self-developed motor for the first time at this exhibition and will soon be put into mass production. Other products on display include a dedicated hybrid gearbox, a Schaeffler Intelligent Steering Drive Module with 90-degree steering, wire-by-wire technology for autonomous driving, and the Schaeffler Mover, an urban transportation concept car.

Focus on the entire energy chain

As a comprehensive automotive and industrial product supplier, Schaeffler formulates its product strategy from the perspective of the entire energy chain, which is why Schaeffler actively provides products and system solutions for renewable energy generation. Klaus Rosenfeld said: "If we only shift carbon emissions from one link to the other in the energy chain, it will not have any impact on the overall carbon balance. To achieve sustainable development, we must focus on The entire energy chain. "He pointed out that the availability of renewable energy fluctuates greatly, and energy storage technology is needed to solve this problem, which has made the importance of alternative energy sources such as hydrogen increasing. Schaeffler takes full advantage of traditional core technical expertise in materials technology, material forming and surface technology to carry out forward-looking research and development of fuel cell components. At the same time, Schaeffler takes advantage of its advantages in the industrial and automotive industries, from energy production to the application of energy in vehicles, and actively participates in all aspects of the energy chain.

Schaeffler Motors achieves mass production

Reducing carbon emissions through the electrification of power systems is a very effective way. At this exhibition, Schaeffler showed a wealth of electric drive solutions to help automakers accelerate the electrification process. "We provide comprehensive products and solutions for different degrees of electrification of vehicles, covering light, strong and plug-in hybrids, and now also include high-performance motor products for pure electric drives," Schaeffler Group Automotive Engine Division Chief Executive Officer Matthias Zink said.

Schaeffler develops motors with voltage levels ranging from 48V to 800V and power levels ranging from 15kW to 300kW, and is currently making final preparations for mass production. In 2021, Schaeffler will produce electric motors for a leading European car manufacturer, and the products will be used in various electric vehicle models of the manufacturer. In terms of hybrids, Schaeffler highlighted the special hybrid transmission (DHT), a technology that completely integrates the motor and the transmission to form a complete power unit.

Schaeffler Mover

In addition to climate change, urbanization is also changing the future of mobility. At the show, Schaeffler will showcase the new city concept car Schaeffler Mover, which aims to solve this challenge. The concept car is a highly adaptable autonomous driving development platform, integrating Schaeffler's many innovative technologies. The core of this concept car is its driving chassis, which is equipped with the Space Drive wire-control system, the key technology for automatic driving. The Schaeffler chassis includes four intelligent steering drive modules, which are installed in four wheels, and all drive and suspension components are integrated in a compact unit. This design means that the platform can be expanded and adjusted to accommodate multiple vehicle applications. Not long ago, this concept car won the 2019 German Future Travel Award from the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure.

Klaus Rosenfeld said: "Schaeffler not only provides innovation-driven technology, but also innovative solutions for the concept of mobility. We therefore play an active role in shaping sustainable transport in the future."
