SGN and Pale Blue Dot collaborate on hydrogen

SGN and Pale Blue Dot Energy collaborate on State Grid Transmission Corporation project. The two companies plan to build a hydrogen plant in northeastern Scotland.

The Aberdeen Vision project is part of the Acorn Hydrogen project. The plan uses natural gas from the St Fergus natural gas terminal to produce hydrogen, of which about 35% of British natural gas comes from inland regions. Due to the high content of natural gas in North East Scotland, large-scale hydrogen production can be achieved. The northeastern region is currently researching and developing carbon capture and storage infrastructure that can serve the project.

The Aberdeen Vision project will assess the mixing of hydrogen into the gas grid and consider the feasibility of transporting hydrogen through pipelines.

SGN has been working with other natural gas carriers on research and development of hydrogen distribution. The network developed by the company is suitable for hydrogen mixtures and can also be used for 100% pure hydrogen transportation.

The company is currently exploring strategic locations across the UK with a phased approach to introducing hydrogen.
