Sumitomo Chemical: sales of heat-resistant lithium battery separators to reach 600 million square meters in 2021

Sumitomo Chemical said that they plan to achieve the goal of selling 600 million square meters of lithium battery heat-resistant separator "Peruvio" by 2021, and double the sales volume of lithium battery heat-resistant separator compared with 2006. It is understood that the film is a heat-resistant lithium battery separator coated with aramid on a polyolefin substrate, and is mainly provided to related companies of EV (electric vehicle) batteries in the United States.

Sumitomo Chemical said that in the future, the company will use battery materials as the main pillar of energy and functional materials. The company is considering cooperating with Tanaka Chemical Research Laboratory to establish an efficient production system. The laboratory is responsible for the pre-production process of the lithium battery anode material of the subsidiary and establishes a battery material baking process. They also expect to develop new solid-state battery products in combination with cobalt-free (Co) technology.

Relevant information shows that Sumitomo Chemical has planned to build and expand production of heat-resistant diaphragm plants since 2016, and this investment project will continue until 2021 with an investment of about 25 billion yen (about 1.531 billion yuan).

On May 22, Sumitomo Chemical stated that due to the increase in market demand, shipments of lithium battery separators have increased, and in addition, shipments of other products centered on batteries have also increased, which makes the department's Operating income increased by 31.9 billion yen (approximately RMB 2.011 billion) from last year to 282.9 billion yen (approximately 17.832 billion RMB).
