Sumitomo Mining battery material delays lithium nickel oxide expansion

Sumitomo Metal Mining Corporation recently announced that due to the extension of the expansion project, the company's lithium nickel oxide production plan will be delayed for half a year to complete.

According to the Sumitomo Metal Mine, according to the original plan, the company ’s lithium nickelate production capacity should reach 4,550 tons / month in June. However, due to the expansion of Sumitomo Chemical and other companies near the factory, local workers are understaffed. The production capacity stayed at 3550 tons / month, so the completion time of the project will be postponed to the end of this year. For downstream requirements, the company guarantees that it will establish a stable supply system. The company supplies lithium nickelate to the Panasonic Group, which will eventually be used in electric vehicles produced by Tesla. The person in charge of the company said that the delay in production expansion will not have an excessive impact on downstream.
