Teijin Japan has recently developed high-performance carbon fiber prepolymers using advanced engineering plastics such as polyetheretherketone PEEK, polyaryletherketone PAEK, polyethersulfone PSE and polyphenylene sulfide PPS. In order to further expand the application of carbon fiber composite materials in the automotive field, Teijin now provides three more matrix materials: PP/PC, PC and PA.
These materials are now used as base resins for new versions of the company's existing prepreg products, including Tenax Thermoplastic Unidirectional (TPUD), Tenax Thermoplastic Woven Fabric (TPWF) and Tenax Thermoplastic Composite Panel (TPCL).
Prepregs made with these three new thermoplastic resins can be molded at lower temperatures and faster to produce than Teijin's existing thermoplastic intermediates made of PEEK, PAEK, PPS and PSE resins , more cost-effective and therefore suitable for applications requiring production efficiency such as automotive, sporting goods and precision instruments.
