Teijin launches Japan’s first Shuangma carbon fiber prepreg product with both high temperature resistance and impact resistance

Teijin Group announced on March 4 that it launched the first carbon fiber reinforced shuangma resin prepreg in Japan. The prepreg has both high heat resistance and high impact resistance, and is particularly suitable for producing aero engine components.

This prepreg has a glass transition temperature of 280 ° C and a compression strength (CAI) of 220 MPa after impact. This is a technical parameter that traditional prepregs can hardly have, and once became a worldwide problem. At the same time, this new prepreg product has a smaller linear expansion coefficient and can maintain high dimensional stability in both low and high temperature environments. In addition, by adjusting the viscosity of the resin in the formula and controlling the speed of the resin as it flows through the preform in the mold, the Teijin Group successfully shortened the curing time of Shuangma prepreg.

For a long time, Teijin Group has continued to advance the research and development of new technologies and adjusted the formula of its prepreg products to meet the needs of aero-engine component products. At the same time, it is also broadening the application of more high temperature aviation products. With the latest acquisition of US-based Renegade, a manufacturer of high-temperature-resistant composite materials, Teijin Group will have a more mature technology reserve and a wider global sales channel.

It is understood that carbon fiber prepreg is an intermediate product made of a combination of carbon fiber and different resins, which has a wide range of applications, including aerospace, automotive, infrastructure, leisure sports, etc. According to the needs of different end application fields, different types of matrix resins and specific production processes are selected for production. Generally, people use carbon fiber and light-weight, high-density epoxy resins to produce prepregs, but when it comes to the production of aviation high-temperature products, Shuangma resin is used as a substitute to prevent product deformation and damage. However, the traditional Shuangma prepreg has always been difficult to use. When improving its high temperature resistance, it is often at the expense of its impact resistance. In addition, carbon fiber composite products produced with Shuangma resin prepregs are easily broken and peeled when subjected to high-strength impact. In addition, the flowability of Shuangma resin itself will increase the difficulty of molding. However, these problems will be properly solved with the advent of Teijin's new product.
