Airbus aircraft using Teijin Tenax TPCL carbon fiber thermoplastic consolidated laminates has been delivered to Japan Airlines.
Teijin Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan) announced that its Tenax TPCL carbon fiber thermoplastic consolidated laminates were delivered to Airbus (JAL, Japan Airlines; Tokyo) Airbus' new ultra-wide body midsize jetliner A350 XWB on June 14. Teijin said the Tenax TPCL is used to connect the skin, frame and stringer components of the aircraft fuselage.
Over the past 30 years, the company has supplied Tenax carbon fiber to several Airbus aircraft families. In May 2014, Tenax TPCL was registered in Airbus's eligible product list for the world's first use of carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic (CFRTP) in the main structural components of Airbus aircraft. Tenax TPCL is made of carbon fiber composite material, using high impact, heat and chemical resistant polyetheretherketone (PEEK) thermoplastic resin, provided by Teijin Carbon Europe Co., Ltd. (Wuppertal, Germany).
Teijin said it is increasingly emphasizing the use of rugged, lightweight, high-performance materials to provide environmentally sensitive solutions to improve fuel efficiency. Teijin is focusing its carbon fiber business on aircraft and is rapidly developing midstream and downstream applications. Looking ahead, Teijin intends to further strengthen its carbon fiber and intermediate materials business and become a leading solution provider for aircraft applications.
