Teijin’s thermoplastic carbon fiber unidirectional prepreg passed Boeing certification and will be used to produce aircraft main structural parts

Teijin Group announced on January 31 that its thermoplastic carbon fiber unidirectional prepreg (Tenax TPUD) brand, officially named Tenax, has officially passed Boeing certification and is included in the supply list. This means that Tenax TPUD will be used to produce the main structural components of Boeing aircraft. Since the Teijin Group and Boeing signed the product certification agreement in 2016, the two parties have intensively launched the material testing and application development of carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites (CFRTP) in the application of aviation main structural components. Tenax TPUD is a product produced with carbon fiber and thermoplastic resin as the basic raw materials, and has the advantages of light weight, high strength, heat resistance, impact resistance and fatigue resistance. When used in the production of actual products, due to the short molding time, it can effectively reduce production costs and improve production efficiency. Teijin Group plans to start shipping to parts manufacturers that supply Boeing within the next two years.
