The global leading manufacturer of Type IV composite high-pressure gas cylinders Hanwha Cimarron builds a new production facility in the U.S.

Hanwha Cimarron LLC will build a new US$130 million production facility in Alabama to produce large-scale high-pressure gas cylinders for hydrogen transportation and gas stations, and support the supply of gas to UAM, unmanned aircraft, carrier rockets, national defense, railways, and cargo ships. The bottle application is expanded.

The 2000Liters, IV type composite Neptune gas cylinder produced by Hanwha Cimarron can store hydrogen at a pressure of 517 bar, and can transport 1,200 kg of hydrogen in a 12-meter long tube trailer, which is higher than the I used on the Korean hydrogen tube trailer. Type cylinders are 4 times more.

Hanwha Cimarron LLC announced in December 2020 that it has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of Cimarron Composites, a manufacturer of carbon fiber-wound composite high-pressure gas cylinders. Cimarron Composites was founded in 2008 by Tom DeLay, a veteran with 23 years of experience in materials science at NASA. DeLay holds a number of patents related to light-duty high-pressure gas cylinders, including patents for high-pressure gas cylinders used in spacecraft.

Hanwha Cimarron currently produces large storage tanks for compressed hydrogen and cryogenic fuel storage tanks for space launch vehicles. The acquisition is the result of Hanwha Solutions' efforts to accelerate its expansion into the green hydrogen industry. The company reported that Hanwha Cimarron provides technology for manufacturing hydrogen long-tube trailers, ultra-high pressure tanks for hydrogen refueling stations, and aerospace application tanks, as well as hydrogen-powered vehicles.

A spokesperson for Hanwha Cimarron LLC said in December 2020: "Including acquisition costs, we plan to invest at least US$100 million in Cimarron Composites by 2025 to lay a solid foundation for the development of our global hydrogen tank business. This investment includes Expansion of the Cimarron production facility.

Hanwha Cimarron LLC spends US$130 million to build new factory

As Jerry Underwood reported for madeinalabama.com, Hanwha Cimarron LLC announced on August 3, 2021 that it plans to invest US$130 million in a new manufacturing facility in Opelika, Alabama. David Jeon, CEO of Hanwha Cimarron, said that the new facility will help promote the company's growth in the carbon outer packaging pressure vessel market and meet the needs of industries such as aerospace, drones, defense, marine, rail, and natural gas transportation and storage. Hanwha Cimarron LLC will create 261 jobs in its new factory. “We are happy to bring more than 200 high-paying jobs to the local area and become part of the larger Opelika community,” Jeon said. The Opelika project fulfilled part of Hanwha’s acquisition plan, especially its commitment to invest at least US$100 million in the production of Cimarron Composites by 2025.

Hanwha Cimarron LLC officials outlined the scope of the project together with Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller at the Opelika City Council meeting on August 3. Fuller welcomes Hanwha Cimarron to the business community of East Alabama and its new factory in the Northeast Opelika Industrial Park.
