The world’s first “dural (spinal) membrane patch” was successfully applied in Cambridge University Hospital Hay:P01GZPM

The "dura (spinal) patch", which is made of fibrous materials thinner than a human hair, is piled up layer by layer and attached to the damaged part of the human meninges, which can induce tissue cells to adhere, crawl and grow, and form new tissues.

This is not science fiction, but China's first bio-additive-manufactured artificial hard brain (spinal) membrane that has successfully achieved industrialization.


There is a protective layer between the scalp of the human brain and the brain tissue – the dura mater. After the brain surgery is completed, the artificial dura mater needs to be covered on the defect wound and then the skull is sealed. At that time, the vast majority of artificial dura mater materials on the market were selected from animal sources.


GZPM Regenerative Medicine Technology Corporation took the lead in proposing the use of synthetic materials to design a three-dimensional bionic microstructure that is closest to the human dura mater, which can not only avoid the risk of disease infection caused by animal origin, but also be more conducive to the regeneration of human autologous meningeal tissue.


The artificial dura mater developed by GZPM is composed of tens of thousands of layers of nanofiber membranes, and its structure is highly similar to the microscopic structure of the human body's own meninges. The three-dimensional structure resembles a scaffold for fibroblasts and blood vessels to crawl around, allowing them to quickly repair the missing dura mater.

In order to design a scaffold that is most conducive to the regeneration rate of human tissue, they have strict requirements on the thickness of the fibrous membrane and the membrane pores. The developed "membrane" is only about 0.2-0.5 mm thick.

In 2011, the "dural (spinal) membrane patch" obtained the European market entry ticket – the EU CE registration certificate.
