Thermoplastic composite manufacturer BüFA Germany will use Covestro’s Maezio series of unidirectional tapes to produce continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites (CFRTP)

Germany's BüFA, a supplier of thermoplastic composite materials and semi-finished products, has reached a business partnership with Covestro.

 

BüFA will use the Covestro Maezio series of unidirectional tapes to produce continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites (CFRTP).

In the production of unidirectional tapes, the thermoplastic matrix (such as polycarbonate) will be reinforced by continuous carbon fiber or glass fiber tow. When combined with thermoplastic materials, it becomes a multifunctional material.

Dirk Punke, general manager of BüFA, said: "Although the Maezio series unidirectional belts are very thin, the unidirectional belts have extremely high stability and are extremely light, so they can produce complex or three-dimensional parts."

Continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composite materials can be customized according to customers' special requirements in terms of stiffness and strength. In general, the unidirectional belts produced by Covestro can be efficiently processed, and have high impact strength, high rigidity and good surface effect are also important characteristics. Therefore, this product has a wide range of applications, such as automotive interior and exterior trim, sports equipment, and consumer products. Covestro Maezio CF FR 1000 prepreg tape has low flammability and is particularly suitable for interior parts and consumer electronics.

Unidirectional tape can be laminated at multiple angles to form a multi-axial organic board, and custom materials can exceed metal sheets in performance. These semi-finished products are very important for the application of structural parts in various fields. The unidirectional belt can be combined with thermoforming, laying, winding and injection processes.
