Toray launches recycled eco-friendly Ecouse® PET film

Toray Industries developed Ecouse® polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film. By collecting waste films from electronic component applications and recycling them into environmentally friendly films, it succeeded in realizing a sustainable economy, and it successfully constructed a recycling system.

The company's goal is to start full-scale sales of new products after establishing an annual production capacity of 2,500 tons.

Therefore, Toray began to work with companies throughout the supply chain to demonstrate successful efforts to successfully build and operate a system to collect and reuse PET film in electronic component applications. Toray combines mechanical recycling technology to remove paint and resin from the surface of the film through grinding, washing, separation, drying, re-granulation and mixing, and adopts foreign matter removal technology in each manufacturing process, so that it can Mechanical performance or reliability.

The resulting Ecouse® series of environmentally friendly PET films can help reduce the consumption of raw materials derived from fossil fuels and waste plastics, and at the same time reduce the carbon dioxide emissions generated by the recycling of waste films into film production by 30% to 50%.

Ecouse® is a brand of recycled materials and products. Toray has been promoting it globally since 2015. The company traditionally reuses waste from the manufacturing process as film raw materials. Now, it will speed up the deployment of its recycled film by developing the Ecouse® series of PET films using customers' recycled materials. Toray hopes to build more recycling systems and manufacturing devices to expand the types of collection film applications other than electronic components.

The various applications of PET film include electronic components, packaging materials and display items. The relatively short supply chain of electronic components from film production to processing has prompted people to consider recycling systems.

However, the challenge lies in the lack of technology to remove various coatings, resins and other materials from every process in the supply chain. This hinders the reuse of materials in the film, so the focus has been on waste disposal and heat recovery.

It also expands the use of Ecouse® to other series of films and film processing products.
