China developed tethered drone motor with high-speed and high-voltage non-inductive FOC technology Hay:U01NBND

Recently, Chinese drone motor technology company NBND successfully developed tethered drone motors with high-speed and high-voltage non-inductive FOC technology, and has won orders from Israeli drone companies and well-known Chinese drone companies.

"I can proudly say that we currently have no competing products in this category of products on a global scale. This is also the main reason why this product can be favored by the industry's top drone companies." said team leader Shi Bowen.

The size of the motor is only the size of a coin, but it has kilowatts of power and 3w speed

Tethered UAVs are used by connecting a long tethered integrated cable to the power on the ground, similar to flying a kite, and are usually used in scenarios that require high continuous operation time for UAVs. However, the long-term operation also places extremely high requirements on the software and hardware of the UAV drive motor.

According to Shi Bowen, the electric drive of drones in traditional industries generally uses a relatively low voltage level. Although the widely used brushless DC motor (BLDC) solution is cost-effective, it is prone to noise and excessive energy consumption. Therefore, it has always been a shortcoming in the long endurance application of tethered drones. The innovative sensorless HS FOC (Senerless HS FOC) technology can achieve higher control frequency and accuracy, making the motor run more smoothly and have a high-speed dynamic response. The disadvantage is that the technical threshold is extremely high and requires very complex mathematical algorithms.

At present, the team adapts the high-speed and high-voltage non-inductive FOC technology to the ultra-small tethered UAV motor. The motor is only the size of a coin, weighs about 50g, but has an output power of 1000w and a speed of up to 30,000 revolutions per minute. At the same time, it meets the characteristics of small size and high voltage, and the frequency difference is 5-10 times higher than the existing technology.

The news of their technological breakthrough also allowed companies in the industry to see commercial possibilities. A leading drone company in Israel immediately placed a batch of products with them for automatic picking by drones.
