Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions to collaborate on lithium titanate power batteries at Johnson Controls Power Solutions (JCI)

Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions, a subsidiary of Toshiba, has announced that it will cooperate with Johnson Controls Power Solutions (JCI) of the United States in the automotive lithium-ion battery business. In the future, JCI's Michigan plant will manufacture lithium-ion batteries, as well as the development and manufacturing of automotive products incorporating lead-acid batteries.

The "SCiB" developed by Toshiba is a lithium battery using Lithium Titanate as the negative electrode. It has the advantages of high safety, long life, rapid charging, and low temperature performance, so it is widely used in automobiles, buses, railways, and Various applications such as industrial machinery. On the other hand, JCI plans to launch a battery product combining "SCiB" for Micro Hybrid Cars based on its long-term lead battery technology and adoption performance. According to a survey, around 2025, 20% of new cars in the world will use a Micro Hybrid System consisting of lithium-ion batteries and lead-acid batteries.

In view of this, Toshiba and JCI look forward to establishing an immediate product production and supply system through enterprise cooperation and improving the efficiency of product development.
