US Micro LED solution provider Compound Photonics (CP) announced the opening of its Micro LED manufacturing plant MiAC

On November 16, US Micro LED solution provider Compound Photonics (CP) announced the opening of its Micro LED manufacturing plant MiAC (MicroLED Innovation Acceleration Center) in Chadler, Arizona, USA.

The MiAC factory occupies an area of approximately 15,000 square feet and has a 100-level clean room. It directly uses professional manufacturing equipment and measurement equipment to facilitate the development of advanced manufacturing processes such as Micro LED assembly, bonding, integration, and trial production.

CP said that the MiAC factory will be committed to accelerating the time to market of monolithic integrated Micro LED displays below 5μm to meet the growing demand for AR/MR and smart wearable devices in the mass market.

CP's proprietary Micro LED integration technology is a monolithic integration of GaN-based Micro LED array epitaxial wafers and advanced CMOS backplane array wafers, combined with the Intellipix drive technology platform recently released by CP.

Based on CP’s rich experience in manufacturing 3μm high-performance Micro LED displays, coupled with strategic partners’ next-generation manufacturing solutions in CMP, hybrid wafer bonding, measurement and packaging processes, the MiAC factory will integrate the advantages of the two to accelerate Micro Integration of LED array and compact micro-display module.

The MiAC factory is now ready, and more strategic partners will join it in the future. In addition, CP’s 0.26-inch diagonal, 1080p resolution backplane has been configured as an RGB full-color Micro LED display, which integrates a display driver IC and industry standard MIPI interface. The initial samples are expected to be launched at the MiAC factory next summer.

It is worth noting that both Micro LED technology developer Plessey and semiconductor equipment supplier Axus are CP’s partners, and the parties are working together to develop Micro LED AR/MR equipment.

CP's high-performance digital backplane helps Micro LED technology manufacturers to achieve high-resolution micro-display subsystem integration to achieve the world's smallest Micro LED AR display.

Next, CP will fully rely on the expertise and knowledge of its partners to accelerate the progress of the Micro LED production process and prepare for the large-scale commercialization of Micro LED.
