Voestalpine announced plans to further expand its additive manufacturing business in the Asian market. Voestalpine, founded in 1938, specializes in steel technology and is active in the automotive, aerospace, oil and gas, and offshore sectors. Voestalpine has 500 group companies with operations in 50 countries and is one of the largest steel technology companies in Europe.
In 2016, Voestalpine opened an Additive Manufacturing Center in Dusseldorf. The center was established in cooperation with Voetalpine's subsidiary steel company, Böder EDELSTAHL and Uddeholms AB in Austria, and is headquartered in Sweden. These two subsidiaries are hubs for the production of 3D printed metal powders.
In the past, the Additive Manufacturing Center worked with the Austrian Space Platform (OeWF) to develop a 3D printed sampling spoon tool. The tool is coated with titanium nitride and used to collect samples from the simulated Martian environment in Oman.
In 2017, Veostalpine invested 50 million Euros to expand its additive manufacturing business to Taiwan and Singapore, with components manufactured using DMG Mori Lasertec 65 3D. Voestalpine is also a member of Singapore's Technology Accelerator Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC), which includes partners such as Rolls Royce and Siemens.
Current investments in Taiwan and Singapore include the development of increased manufacturing capacity centers. Voestalpine continues its growth momentum and announces that it will further expand its additive manufacturing business in the Asia Pacific region. This year, Voestalpine has installed a 3D printer at the AM Center in Taiwan. In addition, the new 3D printer will be fully operational at the Singapore plant in May.
