VueReal Micro LED screen yield rate exceeds 99.99%, is expected to become the successor of OLED

Recently, Canadian company VueReal announced a breakthrough in its Micro LED screen technology, with a yield rate of 99.9996%. The company has been committed to researching Micro LED chips with flip-chip structure, which can greatly improve luminous efficiency, and can achieve higher efficiency and longer life than OLED.

Most of the Micro LEDs on the market generally have low yields, complex processes, and high sensitivity to static electricity, which prevents large-scale mass production applications. The size of VueReal's light-emitting chip is only 8 microns, and the process is simple and the output is high. According to Dr. Fathi, the vice president of VueReal technology, this method is based on a two-step mesa process, which has an extra step compared to the previous vertical Micro LED, making the electrode mesa smaller. Other manufacturers use through-hole technology, which will result in fragile structures, low yields, and sensitivity to ESD. Dr. Fathi also added, “Our process steps are not only as simple as vertical Micro LEDs, but also compatible with existing LED manufacturers.”

The CEO of VueReal said that the company is currently submitting this manufacturing method to third-party foundries to increase Micro LED production capacity. In addition, the company's microVue inspection system will be used to comprehensively inspect the defects and performance of LEDs, further improving yield and reducing costs.

IT Home has learned that Konka, a domestic manufacturer, has previously launched smart watch products with MicroLED screens. At present, OLED has been popularized on a large scale, and its successor, mini LED, has a size of 50~200μm, and finished products are now available. Once the next generation of MicroLED solves the yield and cost issues, it will be used in smart watches and mobile phones.
