xMEMS Launch The World’s First Solid-State Fidelity Semiconductor MEMS Speaker

Solid-State Fidelity ™ XMEMS Labs, an innovative developer of MEMS micro speakers, has announced the full launch of three revolutionary MEMS micro speaker solutions that can be immediately integrated into emerging personal audio electronic products such as next-generation True Wireless Stereo (TWS) headphones, In Ear Earphones (IEMs), digital hearing aids, and smart glasses and sleep earplugs.

The patented silicon based speaker technology will replace the century old voice coil speaker, enabling the large-scale production of solid-state speakers using semiconductor manufacturing methods with high reliability, and providing more accurate, high fidelity, and high-resolution audio.

Mike Houser, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for xMEMS, stated: Since the release of our first product, the audio industry has given us high recognition for our solid-state fidelity solutions. Unlike traditional voice coil speakers, our speakers are monolithic, and the silicon film provides better material stiffness and exponentially faster pulse response than traditional speakers, achieving the excellent audio performance of xMEMS solid-state fidelity technology

In fact, the stiffness of the xMEMS silicon film structure has been increased by 95 times, providing better clarity and eliminating the turbid mid and high frequency responses of traditional speaker film materials.

In addition, the silicon structure provides a pulse response 150 times faster than traditional designs, providing the most realistic pulse and accurate sound reproduction, which is impossible in the slow attack and attenuation of coil structures.

With this announcement, xMEMS has begun shipping three unique solid-state fidelity solutions:

·Cowell, now in mass production, is the world's smallest solid-state micro speaker, providing excellent high-frequency response, clarity, and a wider sound field for TWS headphones and hearing aids.

·Montara Plus is a MEMS micro speaker with extremely high output, with a maximum sound pressure level of up to 120dB@200Hz It is an ideal full bandwidth electroacoustic transducer suitable for enthusiast grade high-resolution in ear monitors (IEMs), providing the possibility of achieving smaller, lighter, and simpler in ear earphone designs without the need for phase alignment and complex design of multi driver earphones.

·Skyline DynamicVent, the world's first piezoelectric MEMS and DSP controllable dynamic vent, combines the advantages of closed headphones, open headphones, and hearing aids. Skyline has ushered in a new era of active environmental control (AAC), providing enhanced adaptive active noise reduction (ANC) and transparency modes, reducing occlusion effects and eliminating uncomfortable amplification effects caused by one's own voice or footsteps when the ears are covered.

XMEMS solid-state fidelity technology has strongly promoted the transition to all silicon audio systems. This shift began to gain attention in 2007, when MEMS microphones accounted for only 5% of the entire microphone market. By 2022, this proportion has exceeded 80% [1]. XMEMS is leading a similar transformation in the field of speakers.

Peter Cooney, founder of SAR Insight, said, "The MEMS micro speaker market is expected to develop along a trajectory similar to MEMS microphones. Consumer demand for high-resolution, spatial audio, and lossless streaming audio represents an intergenerational shift in audio content, which requires similar evolution in sound reproduction. Solid state fidelity can provide more accurate source sound reproduction and excellent listening experience

MEMS speakers utilize piezoelectric thin film technology as actuators, replacing coils and magnets. When piezoelectric thin films are combined with silicon (instead of plastic or paper) as speaker membranes, the world's first solid-state speaker is achieved. Unlike traditional voice coil speakers used in electronic products, xMEMS micro speakers use standard semiconductor processes and packaging, allowing for rapid, consistent, and cost-effective mass production.

The result is that the weight of high-performance speakers is only about 1/10 that of voice coil speakers, and the size is only about 40% of the latter. Due to the absence of traditional motion components, xMEMS solid-state micro speakers are more reliable and durable than existing technologies, and can even meet the IP58 dust and sweat prevention standard.

Solid state fidelity and single-chip structure not only provide the best auditory experience, but also create the most stable speakers in the industry, "continued Householder.

Thanks to its architectural advantages, solid-state fidelity earphones can survive harsh conditions, such as being forgotten in the user's pocket through a washing machine and dryer.

Householder concluded, "Solid state fidelity speakers are definitely industry innovators. So far, speakers are still one of the few electronic components that have not been improved by silicon technology. xMEMS's true solid-state micro speakers can now fundamentally change the way people listen to sound

About xMEMS Labs, Inc

XMEMS Labs was established in January 2018 and is reshaping sound through the world's first solid-state true MEMS speaker for TWS and other personal audio devices. The technology of xMEMS has over 100 authorized patents worldwide. The innovative monolithic transducer architecture achieves drive and diaphragm in silicon, producing the world's fastest and most accurate micro speakers, eliminating the spring and suspension recovery of coil speakers. This brings the most accurate time-domain music reproduction, unparalleled sound clarity, and a higher sense of space.
