BASF plans to build Thermoplastic Urethane / TPU production unit at China’s second integrated production base

BASF plans to build 32,000 tons / year of TPU and 160,000 tons / year of engineering plastics in China's second integrated production base. The production base is located in Zhanjiang Economic and Technological Development Zone.

The TPU and engineering plastics projects began their first round of environmental impact assessments in April. This is in line with the framework agreement signed in January. BASF opened a liaison office in Zhanjiang in March this year.

This $ 10 billion production site will be BASF's largest investment project. The company said that according to local authorities in Zhanjiang, the company will become the world's third largest production base after Ludwigshafen in Germany and Antwerp in Belgium. Some operations are planned for 2026, and the plant will be fully operational by 2030.

For projects wholly owned by BASF, the Zhanjiang production base will also become the first large-scale integrated production base, including the full implementation of intelligent manufacturing.

In addition, it will supply local and multinational manufacturers in South China. According to BASF, key markets that may be served include downstream industries such as automobiles, construction, and high-speed railways.
